Kari Jobe: The Blessing of a Pure Heart for God

11/27/2020
00:24:51

It's difficult to believe Kari Jobe's first album containing the now iconic Revelation Song (Riddle) only released in 2009. Kari, one of the most wholesome and loved worship leaders of our time, maintains her childlike perspectives on worship and ministry despite worldwide acclaim, multiple awards, and accolades. Her name, Kari, even means "purity" and pure worship and love for God flow from her in every moment of this new interview with show host, John Chisum.

"It was like sitting down with a sweet friend, or my younger sister," says Chisum. "Kari is so open about where she is now after so many successful years of ministry and how she's been able to go even deeper in the Word when a lot of people burn out. I love this interview!"

Listen in as Kari shares from her heart the realities of raising children during the Covid-19 pandemic, the challenges of touring with children and husband, worship leader, Cody Carnes, as well as sharing her deepest struggles as a single person before God brought Cody into her life.

John and Kari discuss her lengthy history of breakthrough worship songs such as Revelation Song, Holy Spirit, Healer, No Sweeter Name, and Forever, and the global impact of her latest offering in The Blessing, co-written with Pastor Steven Furtick, Carnes, and Christopher Brown.

"I think what feels really sweet on this and what feels a little different is these songs really," she says. "I really dug deep for this album and for every song that's on the project, there's probably five that didn't make it. I just remembered saying to Cody,'I don't want to put anything on this project that won't work at church and in a congregational setting.'"

If you've followed the powerful worship ministry of Kari Jobe for years or are new to her music, you'll love hearing her tender heart for worship and her desire that you go deeper in your own devotional life.

Popular worship leader, recording artist, and songwriter Matt Maher is a deep thinker. Once you listen to this heartfelt interview, you'll easily understand where songs like Christ Is Risen, Lord, I Need You, Your Grace Is Enough, and many more have come from in the deep heart of Matt Maher.

"I was blown away with my talk with Matt," says show host, John Chisum. "We actually talked a lot longer than we could release in the final edited version, but I found myself drawn deeper into my own faith and wanting to feel even closer to Christ through this episode. I think everyone who listens to it will feel the same."

Since his 2008 major label debut, Matt Maher has become a staple in the artistic and songwriting community. A nine time-GRAMMY® nominee and three time-GMA Dove Award winner, he has garnered multiple radio successes, writing and recording songs such as his Top 5 CCLI song "Lord, I Need You" and the chart-topping radio single "Because He Lives (Amen)." Along with other hits such as "Hold Us Together," "Christ Is Risen," "All The People Said Amen," and "Your Grace Is Enough," Maher has written or co-written five No. 1 radio singles.

Penning numerous songs recorded by Chris Tomlin, Crowder, Third Day, Jeremy Camp, Matt Redman, Hillsong, Casting Crowns, Meredith Andrews, Jesus Culture, Jars of Clay, and Passion, he's had multiple titles on the CCLI chart's Top 500 list. With career album sales of more than 550,000 units to date, Maher was recently awarded his first RIAA Platinum certification for his popular single "Lord, I Need You." He's released nine studio albums, including his 2017 GRAMMY-nominated album Echoes. He also released his first Christmas album and children's book, both titled The Advent of Christmas, during the 2018 holiday season.

"What I think you're going to love most about this conversation with Matt is how it will encourage you to go a little deeper in your own faith, whether you write songs or not," continues Chisum. "Our show is about more than songs - - it's about a better life - - and Matt helps us gain a fresh perspective on how to have a better life as we seek the heart of God in fresh ways, as well as seek a fresh perspective on what it means to be part of the Body of Christ."

I AM THEY: Finding God Faithful Again

11/13/2020
00:56:35

For pop worship band I AM THEY, believing in God's faithfulness is an active exercise in trust. After years of member transition and internal uncertainty with how or even why to move forward, they are leaning on Hebrews 10:23 - "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who is promised is faithful."

The band - made up of Matt Hein (vocals, guitar), Abbie Parker, (vocals), Brandon Chase (vocals, guitar), Justin Shinn (keys) and Nicole Hickman (drums) - poured the challenges of the past, hope for the future, and a newfound joy for the present into their third album, Faithful God.

Show host, John Chisum, met up with IAT's Abbie Parker and Matt Hein at K-LOVE Studios in Franklin, TN, to discuss the new album and the new season they find themselves in as they weather the storms 2020 has brought to us all. This engaging interview includes how the band moved an entire tour online when the world was shutting down for Covid-19 and their own coping strategies in quarantine.

"I've loved their music from their first album," Chisum says. "And I loved their transparency in talking with me about their personal struggles with addiction and relationship meltdowns, including Abbie's divorce, Matt's former addiction to pornography, and Justin's miraculous recovery from a near-lethal addiction to heroin."

IAT discussed welcoming their newest member, Brandon Chase, on vocals and guitar for this album. Chase graduated from Berklee College of Music at age 17, joined Team Blake on The Voice, and was voted 'Crush of the Week' by Seventeen Magazine.

Matt, Abbie, and John have a warm and often funny conversation that will encourage anyone needing grace for their own struggles and undoubtedly win new fans for the band and their music.

Hope Darst: "Peace Be Still" and Overcoming Fear

10/9/2020
00:51:46

Hope Darst is a Fair Trade recording artist and a worship leader at the Belongingco church in Nashville alongside the likes of Natalie Grant, Mia Fieldes, Meredith Andrews, and many more well-known worship leaders and artists. But a record deal and commercial exposure were a long time in the making for Hope. It was a dream she had all but given up on.

Hope felt from a young age that she was destined to sing. She had tried to launch her career several times, but to no avail. As she describes now, her dream was put on hold for years as God worked on her from the inside out. She calls those her "basement years" when she was learning to be a great wife and Mom, delaying her lifelong musical aspirations.

But all that has begun to change. While diligently seeking the Lord and practicing her faith in contentment and obscurity, God has steadily been increasing Hope's visibility as a worship leader and songwriter. Opportunities she could not have engineered have been found and she is now launching a music career at a time when many would be looking to leave touring and public ministry for a quieter time at home.

But God had different plans and more than a few surprises waiting for Hope.

Debuting at radio during the first weeks of the global Coronavirus pandemic, her first single after years of waiting in the wings, Peace Be Still, should have been shut down like the rest of the world. Instead, it has become a massive chorus of faith during this crisis. And no one is more surprised than Hope herself.

"All I cared about, John, was God. I want the Spirit of God to be on this song, "Hope tells John Chisum during this powerful interview. "I've heard it said before that, when you write songs from an encounter with the Lord, you lock up that encounter within the song. And when it is sung over people or when other people sing it, they, too, then have that encounter released into their own lives."

In this personable interview, John Chisum and Hope Darst discuss the deep work in her heart as God released her from lifelong fears and the overriding need to please others, even above pleasing Him. Hope shares the story behind the song and encourages us all to live into the healing work God wants to do in our own hearts.

If you're struggling with fear or you've got dreams buried in your heart that don't seem to be coming true, you're going to find a lot of encouragement and inspiration in this conversation with Hope Darst. It will give you fresh faith and the encouragement to keep believing in God, yourself, and the dreams of your heart, despite all the odds at work against them.
